National
Terror Alert Solution Shown at Technology and Counterterrorism
Conference
HUNTSVILLE,
Ala. & CUPERTINO, Calf., March 14, 2003
System
to distribute enhanced video and facial composites earns
praise as an example of a public-private antiterrorism initiative
Monday
at the Strategies for Public Safety Transformation Conference
in Bal Harbour, Florida, Intergraph Corporation INGR, IQ
Biometrix Inc. IQBM and SocialTech successfully demonstrated
technology to communicate enhanced video, facial composite
images and other critical data to agencies nationwide. Attendees
at the conference, which included representatives from the
FBI, Department of Justice and more than 200 police departments
from around the world, viewed the national terror alert
solution.
"Meeting
new homeland security requirements requires agencies at
all levels of government to effectively communicate and
coordinate information related to terrorist threats,"
said John Walsh, host of television's "America's Most
Wanted" and keynote speaker at the conference. "The
national terrorist alert and tracking system launched at
the conference fulfills a vital component of the homeland
security strategy, and is a landmark example of the government,
private and non-profit partnerships that are essential to
its success."
The
national terrorist alert solution lets authorities share
critical information with each other and broadly distribute
security and safety information to the public. It is built
on proven, successful technology already installed in 32
states and used by more than 1,300 law enforcement agencies
to share enhanced video surveillance evidence, suspect composites
and other key investigative data. The system is applicable
in any emergency situation - including homeland security
threats, industrial or natural disasters, biohazard incidents
or coordinated law enforcement efforts, such as child abductions
or wanted persons cases.
The
solution is an outgrowth of a unified effort among leading
philanthropic and technology organizations. SocialTech is
a nonprofit organization that has worked with U.S. law enforcement
agencies since 1995 to develop and implement alert programs.
Intergraph is a technology and solutions company whose Video
Analyst System delivers tools to capture, enhance and analyze
all major video formats. IQ Biometrix is a security solutions
company that makes the award-winning composite image technology,
FACES.
A long-time
advocate for victims and missing children, John Walsh is
the host of the nation's No. 1 crime-fighting show, "America's
Most Wanted," which airs on television's Fox Network.
The program regularly features the use of FACES and plans
to use Video Analyst System to help solve missing persons
cases.
"We
are pleased to support 'America's Most Wanted' with the
most powerful video analysis technology available,"
said Trey McKay, manager of the Integrated Products Division
at Intergraph Solutions Group. "This will help us raise
awareness of what law enforcement agencies nationwide already
know - that Video Analyst can deliver solid video evidence
that helps catch and convict criminals."
